Cassandra Backup Operations

The following backup types are available:

What Is Backed Up

The backups include all the keyspaces from all the nodes that are in the Cassandra cluster.

Commvault only backs up the Cassandra user-defined data types.

You can include the following in the backup:

  • Data only

  • Commit log only

  • Data and the commit log

Commit Log Backup Considerations

If you have already configured Cassandra for commit log archiving, then the first Commvault commit log backup operation places the backup in the archive log path (Instance Properties dialog box, General tab, Archive Log Path box).

If you have not configured Cassandra for commit log archiving, then the first Commvault commit log backup operation sets the path and name parameters in the commitlog-archiving.properties file with the values that you specified on Commvault (Instance Properties dialog box, General tab, Archive Log Path box and Archive Command box). The Cassandra service must restart on the nodes.

If your backup includes the data and the commit log, then the Commvault software initiates a separate job for the commit log after the data backup completes.

The Commvault software backs up, and then deletes the commit logs that are in the archive log path as part of the backup process.
