Creating a Container With an Docker VM Lifecycle Policy

The Virtual Machines application allows you to create and customize your own Docker Container. Only you and your administrator can view the contents of your Container.

Procedure

  1. Log into the Web Console. For instructions, see Accessing the Web Console.

  2. Click Virtual Machines > Containers.

  3. At the top-right of the page, click Create Container.

  4. From the Select Container Pool list, select the name of a Docker container pool, and then click Next.

    If there is only one container pool available to you, you will not see this screen. In this case, the Name page appears first.

  5. On the Name page, specify the name, description, expiration date, and number of your containers.

    1. In the Name box, enter a name for the container.

    2. In the Description box, type a description of the containers.

    3. In the Expiration box, select the date on which the containers will expire.

    4. Click Next.

  6. On the Image page, select the image to use for your container, and then click Next.

  7. On the Resources page, define the memory size, number of CPUs, and number of NICs for the virtual machine.

    1. In the CPU Cores box, enter the number of CPUs for the virtual machine.

    2. In the Memory (GB) box, enter the amount of memory for the virtual machine.

    3. In the Ports box, specify the port number to use for receiving commands.

    4. In the Command box, type the start-up command.

    5. Click Next.

  8. On the Access Containers page, move the containers you want to use from the Available Containers list to the Selected Containers list, and then click Next.

  9. On the Volumes page,

    1. In the Source Volume list, select the Docker volume to use for your container.

    2. In the Path In Container box, specify the location for your container, and if required, in the Sub-directory path box, type the sub-directory location.

    3. Click Next.

  10. Review the summary of your selections, and then click Finish.

    Once the containers are created, they appear in the My VMs & Containers list. The creation process may take several moments to complete.

    An email that confirms the creation of your container is automatically sent to you. This e-mail contains your login credentials.

    Immediately after you create a new container, you cannot select it or run operations, such as Start and Stop, on it. If you log out of Web Console, and then log in again. You can then select and run operations on the newly created container.
