You can restore full Amazon EC2 instances to the original location (in place).
Considerations
-
When you restore an Amazon VPC, Commvault restores it with the old VPC name.
-
Commvault does not restore Amazon EBS gp3 IOPS values or throughput values. Default values are set by the restore operation. You can modify the default values after the restore is complete. The default IOPS value is 3000. The default throughput value is 125 MB/s.
Prerequisites
If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.
Start the Restore Wizard
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.
The Overview page appears.
-
On the VM groups tab, in the row for the VM group that contains the instances that you want to restore, click the action button , and then click Restore.
The Select restore type page appears.
-
Click Full instance.
The Full instance page appears.
-
Select the instances to restore.
-
To select a specific access node and/or source, in the upper-right area of the page, click the Settings button .
By default, the Commvault software automatically selects the access node and source as follows:
-
Access node: The software selects an access node based on availability and environment.
-
Source: The software searches for the instances that you want to restore in the primary copy. If the instances are not found in the primary copy, the software selects a different copy.
For more information, see MediaAgent and Copy Precedence Considerations for Virtualization Restores.
-
-
Click Restore.
The restore wizard appears.
Specify the Restore Destination
-
For Type, select In place.
-
For Access node, select Automatic, an access node, or an access node group.
If you are restoring multiple instances, select Automatic to distribute the workload across the access nodes that are assigned for the destination hypervisor (which represents an AWS account). First, the instances are assigned to the access nodes that are in the same AWS Region. If no access nodes are available in the same Region, the instances are assigned to access nodes using the round-robin method.
If you select an access node group to restore instances, the Commvault software distributes the workload across the access nodes that are available in the access node group.

The Restore Options page appears.
Specify the Restore Options
-
Specify the following settings:
-
Power on VMs after restore: Automatically restart instances after they are restored.
The power state of the instance does not affect subsequent backups. If the instance is powered on during backups, by default, the instance is powered on again after the restore completes (unless you clear this check box).
-
Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists: Delete an existing instance and replace it with the restored instance.
When you select Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists for an in-place restore, the Commvault software retains the original UUID for the restored instance instead of re-creating the instance from backup data.
If an existing instance with the same name exists on the destination host and you do not select Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists, the restore job fails.
-
Notify user on job completion: Receive an email notification that the restore is complete.
-
Under Additional options, for Transport mode, you can specify the transport mode to use for the restore.
The default value of Automatic uses the best transport mode for your environment.
For more information, see Transport Modes for Backups, Restores, Replications, and Conversions to Amazon EC2.
