Configure network connectivity for Microsoft Hyper-V VMs

To back up and restore Microsoft Hyper-V VMs, allow network communication between Commvault access nodes and your Hyper-V infrastructure.

If your environment uses firewalls or network segmentation, verify connectivity from the access node to Hyper-V hosts.

Prerequisites

Required ports

If firewalls exist between components, allow the following connectivity.

Port Protocol Source Destination Purpose
135 TCP Access node Hyper-V hosts RPC endpoint mapper
49152-65535 TCP Access node Hyper-V hosts RPC dynamic ports for Hyper-V management
5985 TCP Access node Hyper-V hosts WinRM HTTP (if used)
5986 TCP Access node Hyper-V hosts WinRM HTTPS (if used)

Firewall configuration

For Windows Firewall on Hyper-V hosts:

  • Enable the predefined Hyper-V Management Clients firewall rule.

  • Enable the predefined Remote Event Log Management firewall rule.

For hardware firewalls or third-party firewall software, configure rules to allow the required ports listed in the table.
