HyperScale Edge Advanced Configuration Workflow (Manual Network Setup)

Use the Advanced workflow when:

  • DHCP is not available, or
  • The deployment requires custom network configuration, such as:
    • Multiple uplinks
    • Network bonding
    • VLANs
    • Static IP configuration

This workflow allows you to manually configure networking before authentication.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure the following:

  • Physical or remote console access to the HyperScale Edge node
  • Access to Commvault Cloud (SaaS)
  • Default HyperScale Edge node login credentials
  • The hardware serial number of the Edge node
  • Required network information:
    • Static IP addresses
    • Subnet masks
    • Gateways
    • DNS servers
    • VLAN or bonding details (if applicable)

Procedure

Step 1: Create a Device Registration and Storage Pool (Command Center)

  1. In Command Center, go to Storage > Disk.
  2. Select the HyperScale Edge tab.
  3. Click Add, and then click Setup Storage Pool.
  4. On the Storage Pool & System Details page, enter:

    • Storage pool name – A unique name for the HyperScale Edge storage pool.
    • System serial number – The hardware serial number of the Edge node.
    • Time zone – The time zone where the node is deployed.
  5. On the Cloud Connection Details page, select Advanced.

  6. On the Credentials page, set different passwords for:

    • Root password
    • cvbackupadmin password
  7. Review the summary and click Submit.

After submission, the storage pool status is Awaiting device.

Step 2: Configure Networking and Install the Edge Node

  1. Power on the Edge node and log in as the root user.
  2. The software automatically runs the hssetup utility to start installation.
  3. If automatic DHCP configuration fails or multiple interfaces are detected, click Advanced Configuration.
  4. On the Network Configuration page, configure networking using one of the following options:

    • Configure a single interface
    • Create a bonded interface (active-backup or LACP)
    • Create a VLAN interface
  5. Review the configuration summary and click Configure.

For more information, see Setting up the Network for HyperScale Edge.

  6. When network initialization completes, the Authenticating Device screen appears and displays:

    • A registration URL
    • A time-limited verification code
    • A QR code

QR Code is a shortcut to the Device Registration page.

  7. In Commvault Cloud:

  8. Go to the Device Registration page.
  9. Click Verify.
  10. Enter the verification code.

Results

After verification:

  • Installation resumes without further user input.
  • The Edge node authenticates and registers with the Commvault Cloud.
  • The storage pool is created automatically.

When installation is completed, the node status changes to Online (deployed).

The storage pool is displayed on the Storage > Disk page, where you can view its configuration and health status.
