Requiring a Passkey as a Client Owner

You can require a passkey for browsing and restoring data on your computer. After you enable the passkey feature and create the passkey, share the passkey with the required computer users.

If your administrator also requires a passkey for performing browse and restore operations on your computer, your passkey takes precedence. Alternatively, if you have not enabled and created a passkey yet, then you can ignore the passkey created by your administrator and create your own passkey.

Before You Begin

You must be the client owner.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Web Console.

  2. From the Web Console, go to My Data.

  3. Click Settings for the computer that requires a passkey.

The current privacy settings appear in the Privacy section.

  4. Move the Require passkey for restores toggle to ON.

The Set passkey dialog box appears.

  5. Enter a new passkey in the Passkey and Confirm passkey boxes, and then click Save.

The Authorize for restore toggle key appears.

  6. To enable a user to browse and restore backup data for 30 minutes (after passkey authorization), move the Authorize for restore toggle key to ON.

Results

When a user tries to restore data on your Laptop computer, the user must enter the passkey. If you selected Authorize for restore, then the user can continue to access and restore backup data for 30 minutes after passkey authorization.
