To run a secondary copy operation, you must create a storage policy copy and configure it to use the data paths of a global secondary policy copy. To efficiently manage the lifecycle of the tape media, associate storage policy copies that have similar retention settings to a global secondary copy policy.
Alternatively, you can automate storage policy copy creation and configure it to use the data paths of a global secondary policy by using the configuration XML. For more information, see Creating a Storage Policy Copy Using a Global Secondary Copy Policy Through the Command Line Interface.
Before You Begin
You must have the following entities:
-
A storage pool using a tape library
For more information about creating a storage pool using a tape library, see Configuring Tape Network Storage Pool.
-
A global secondary copy policy using the tape network storage pool
For more information about creating a global secondary copy policy, see Creating Global Secondary Copy Policy.
No two or more storage policy copies in a storage policy can be associated with the same storage pool.
Procedure
Create one or more storage policy copies that use the storage pool as follows:
-
Synchronous copy: For more information about creating a synchronous copy using a storage pool, see Getting Started.
-
Selective copy: For more information about creating a selective copy using a storage pool, see Getting Started With Selective Copies.
What to Do Next
-
If necessary, you can fine-tune the settings for a copy. For more information about modifying the settings for a copy, see Additional Configuration Options For Storage Policy Copies.
-
After creating the storage policy copy, run the secondary copy operation for all storage policies that contain the secondary copies. For more information, see Running the Auxiliary Copy.
