Creating a Storage Policy with Global Deduplication

You can create a storage policy with deduplication and assign it to a storage pool with global deduplication to use the data paths and deduplication settings of a global deduplication policy.

You can create a storage policy by using the Create a Storage Policy wizard.

Alternatively, you can automate the creation of a storage policy associated with a global deduplication enabled storage pool by using the sp_creation.xml configuration file. For more information, see Creating a Global Deduplication Enabled Storage Policy.

Before You Begin

Before assigning a storage policy to a storage pool with global deduplication, observe the following limitations or restrictions:

  • Assign the storage pool with global deduplication at the time of storage policy or copy creation.

Once assigned, you can neither change nor disable the storage pool.

  • You cannot modify existing storage policy copies for global deduplication.

  • No two storage policy copies in a storage policy can be associated with the same storage pool.

  • You cannot associate client computers to the global deduplication policy. You can associate them only to the standard storage policy.

  • When you configure global deduplication for multiple storage policy copies, ensure that the MediaAgents of all copies have access to the deduplication database (DDB).
