By default, the Workflow Engine is installed as part of the CommServe installation.
If you did not install the Workflow Engine during the CommServe installation, or if you want to install additional engines on other computers, you can do so by using the installation package that was created from the Download Manager application.
Note
If you want to install the Workflow Engine on an active-active cluster environment, follow the instructions in Setting Up the Workflow Engine in an Active-Active Cluster Environment.
Before You Begin
-
Verify that the installation package that was created from the Download Manager includes the Workflow Engine software. If missing, create a new installation package and include the software. For more information, see Downloading Software for Windows Computers Using the Download Manager.
-
Review Commvault requirements and gather the information that you must provide during the installation. For more information, see Preinstallation Checklist for the Workflow Engine.
-
If you plan to install the Workflow database on an existing Microsoft SQL Server instance, see Configuring an Existing SQL Instance for Server Packages.
Procedure
-
Log on to the computer as an Administrator or as a member of the Administrator group on that computer.
-
Run Setup.exe from the installation package.
The installation wizard opens.
-
On the welcome page, select the I Agree check box and then proceed to the next page.
-
On the Choose the Installation Type page, click Install packages on this computer and then proceed to the next page.
-
On the Select Packages page, select the Workflow Engine check box and then proceed to the next page.
-
Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.
Note
-
The installation of the Workflow Engine is not supported using an authorization code. You must use a username and password when installing the Workflow Engine.
-
To help you troubleshoot errors that occur before the Installation Summary page appears, check the %allusersprofile%\Commvault Systems\Galaxy\LogFiles\Install.log file. If errors occur after the Installation Summary page appears, check the installation logs in the Software_Installation_Directory\Log Files directory.

What to Do Next
-
Review the following postinstallation tasks that you might have to perform to complete the installation:
-
Add Commvault to the Windows Firewall Exclusion List
If you did not add the Commvault programs and services to the Windows Firewall exclusion list during the installation, you can add them later by using a batch file. For more information, see Configuring Windows Firewall to Allow CommCell Communication.
-
Complete Firewall and Network Configurations
If you configured firewall or network settings during the installation, you must complete additional firewall/network configurations from the CommCell Console. For more information, see Configuring Network Routes.
If a firewall is placed between the Workflow Engine and the CommServe computer, you must configure the ODBC drivers. Choose the procedure based on your ODBC driver:
If the CommServe LiveSync is enabled, you must enable the ODBC drivers, when the Workflow Engine is setup as a remote client. Choose a procedure based on your environment:
-
CommServe LiveSync in a Windows environment: Configuring Connectivity to Remote Web Server and Workflow Engine Clients
-
CommServe LiveSync in a Linux environment: Configuring Connectivity to Remote Web Server and Workflow Engine Clients
