Overview
This section provides general information about the various options available for restoring data. These concepts are outlined below, with links provided for more information on each subject. For detailed restore information and the options supported by each Agent, see the documentation for the particular agent.
Global Restore Options
The following options are available for controlling all restore jobs.
Job Restarts and Job Running Time
For indexing-based, file system-like agents, you can click the Job Retry tab in the Advanced Restore Options dialog box to access the Job Retries and Job Running Time options, when you perform a data recovery operation.
You can also specify the maximum number of allowed restart attempts and the interval between restart attempts for all data recovery jobs. For procedures, see Configuring Job Restart for Specific Jobs.
Restore from Anywhere
This type of restore automatically identifies and recovers data from any configured library in the CommCell, even if the media is not available in the original library in which the data protection operation was performed. For more information, see Restore from Anywhere.
Set a Job Priority
This option allows you to manually set a job priority. This is useful if you have jobs that are very important and must complete, and/or jobs that can be moved to a lower priority. For more information, see Job Priorities and Priority Precedence.
Scheduled Data Recovery Operations
Allows you to schedule a restore job to run at a time that is convenient. For more information, see Scheduled Data Recovery Operations.
Start in Suspended State
Specifies that this job will start in the Job Controller in a suspended state and cannot run until the job is manually resumed using the Resume option. This option can be used to add a level of manual control when a job is started. For example, you could schedule jobs to start in the suspended state and then choose which scheduled jobs complete by resuming the operation started in the suspended state.

Other Restore Options
The following options are provided which allow you to configure all aspects of the restore operation, to best suit your particular recovery needs. Note that all options are not supported by all agents. For detailed restore information on each agent, refer to the documentation for the particular agent.
Automatic Detection of Regular Expressions
One of the advanced options available during a restore operation is the ability to specify a source path. Certain iDataAgents also allow you to choose to detect or ignore regular expressions (wildcard characters) in the specified source path. This option allows you to restore files and folders which contain regular expressions in their name (e.g., c:\[test]). For more information, see Content, Filters, and Regular Expressions - Restore.
Filter Data From Restore or Recovery Operations
In the event that you specify a source path which contains some data objects that do not need to be restored, if supported for your agent, you can tell the system to not restore certain specified items. For more information, see Filter Data From Restore or Recovery Operations.
Data in Device Node
For the UNIX and Macintosh File System Agents, this restore option specifies if data in the raw device nodes is to be restored. For more information, see Restoring Raw Device Files and Special Files.
Overwrite Options
Allows you to select a combination of conditions as to how and when data should be overwritten during data recovery operations. For more information, see Overwrite Options.
Pre-processes and Post-processes
Allows you to use the restore phases as triggers to start executable processes, such as a batch file or shell script. For more information, see Pre-processes and Post-processes.
Rename or Redirect Files on Restore
Allows you to rename data or redirect it to a designated location upon restore. For more information, see Rename or Redirect Files on Restore.
Restore by Jobs
File System iDataAgents for Windows, Unix and Macintosh provide the capability to select a specific backup job from which data can be restored. This feature is also supported for restoring the CommServe in a disaster recovery scenario. For more information, see Restore by Jobs.
Restore Data Using a Map File
Using a map file allows you to restore individual files and folders to different locations. For more information, see Restore Data Using a Map File.
Restore Data Using a Specific MediaAgent, Library or Drive Pool
Data can be restored/recovered from any compatible library and drive type in the CommCell, even if the media is not available in the original library in which the data protection operation was performed. For more information, see Restore Data Using a Specific MediaAgent, Library or Drive Pool.
Restore Data Using Wildcard Expressions
Allows you to restore files and/or folders/directories that have a common naming convention. For more information, see Restore Data Using Wildcard Expressions.
Restore from Copies
If you need to restore data from a particular storage policy copy, this can be accomplished through the Restore from Copies feature. This type of restore is useful in cases where the data to be restored has been pruned from the primary copy, so the data must be restored from a copy that has a different copy precedence.
Skip Mount Point Restore
For the Unix and Macintosh File System iDataAgents, this advanced restore option provides the capability to filter out mount points during the file system restore, that are part of the backup data. This option is useful in cases where you do not wish to restore the mount points as a part of the file system restore.
Skip Errors and Continue
For index-based agents, this advanced restore/recover/retrieve option enables a restore/recover/retrieve job to continue despite media errors. This option also populates the job's restore.out file with a list of the files (full path) that failed to restore/recover/retrieve. For more information, see Skip Errors and Continue.
Recover All Protected Mail
For Exchange mailbox agents, this advanced recovery option provides a means to recover all archived or backed up email messages for specified mailboxes or folders on all active indexes without having to perform a separate recovery operation for each index cycle.
