Guided Setup for Google Cloud Platform

The Virtualization guided setup guides you through creating a server plan, adding a hypervisor, and adding a VM group.

Before You Begin

• Complete the Core Setup Wizard.

• Review the information in Google Cloud Platform: System Requirements.

• To back up and restore GCP instances, you must create a GCP service account, and then copy the provided private key (P12) file to each VSA proxy (access node).

• For more information, see Creating a Google Cloud Platform Service Account.

• At least one machine must have the Virtual Server Agent installed. For more information, see VSA Proxies and File Recovery Enablers for Linux.

  The VSA proxy must reside in the Google Cloud and must be connected to a GCP project. You can designate one VSA proxy to back up instances from multiple projects (to which access rights are provided in your GCP service account). For faster backups and restores, designate at least one VSA proxy for every GCP region.

Procedure

1. If the setup page is not displayed, from the navigation pane, click Guided setup.

2. After you complete the core setup, on the Protect tab, click the Virtualization tile.

3. On the Create server backup plan page, type a name for the plan, then provide information about storage, retention, and backup schedules. For more information, see Creating a Server Plan.

   If you configured a server backup plan as part of the Core Setup, the wizard skips this page.

4. Click Save.

   The Add hypervisor page appears. The options vary depending on the hypervisor type you select.

5. Provide the following information:

   1. Select vendor: Select Google Cloud Platform.

   2. Client name: Enter a descriptive name for the hypervisor.

   3. Enter account information:

      • Project ID: Enter the Google Cloud Platform Project ID.

      • Service Account ID: Enter the Google Cloud Platform Service Account ID.

      • P12 key filename: Enter the Google Cloud Platform P12 Key File Name. The P12 file should reside in the following location on the proxy computer: base_folder/certificates/external.

      • Private Keys password: Enter the Google Cloud Platform Private Keys password.

   4. Access node: Select a Google Cloud Platform instance in the region to be protected.

6. Click Save.

7. On the Add VM group page, type a descriptive name to identify the VM group, and then select virtual machines to be protected.

8. Click Save.

9. To finish, choose one of the following options:

   • Click Back up Now to perform an immediate backup of the virtual machines in the VM group (without requiring confirmation).

     The Job details page appears and displays job status information.

   • Click Do it later to go to the hypervisor page without performing a backup.
