Installing and Configuring the Software

This procedure describes the installation and configuration process when you transition from the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent to OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic).

Tip

We recommend that you initially configure OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) for a small batch of test users.

Before You Begin

  • Make sure that stub recalls and browse and restores on the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent work.

  • For OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) test users, install Outlook Add-In and verify that the recall works. For more information, see Install Outlook Add-In.

Procedure

  1. Install the Exchange package, and add the OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) either directly on the Exchange server or on a proxy computer.

  2. Replicate the subclient content and archiving rules that were used for Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent.

  3. Configure the retention.

    1. In previous versions of the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent, the retention was configured only at the storage policy level. Items were retained with respect to the jobs they were archived in. However, with OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic), you can configure message-level retention at two levels:

      • Retention settings at the subclient level

When this setting is configured, the messages are retained on the secondary storage for the specified number of days. This data is carried over to subsequent cycles through synthetic full backups.

Use the same value that you used at the storage policy level in previous versions of the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent.

      • Retention settings at the storage policy level

When this setting is configured, messages are retained based on the job in which they are archived. Messages are retained for the specified number of days and cycles. After the retention criteria are met, the older cycles are aged.

    2. Source Pruning: You can configure source pruning to clean up the messages or stubs from the Exchange server based on the retention requirements.

For more information, see Message Retention.

  4. Configure the recall service as a namespace and make sure that it is accessible from outside the firewall.
