Transitioning from the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent to OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic)

If you have been using the traditional Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent to protect your mailbox messages, then you must transition to OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) in version 11.

OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) is a comprehensive solution that incorporates the following:

  • Backup and message archiving in a single operation.

  • You can move the mailbox messages to a secondary storage and use these messages to function as both backup and archive copy.

  • During message recovery, the messages are not restored back to the Exchange server.

  • All recalls happen through HTTP/HTTPS.

After you transition to OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) in version 11, you can continue to use the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent to recover data that was archived using that agent. However, you cannot use the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent to perform archiving operations.

Note

If you want to continue to use Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent for archiving and recovery, you cannot upgrade the client to version 11 software.

Before You Begin

Verify that the computer where you want to install the software satisfies the minimum requirements that are specified in the System Requirements.

Transition Scenarios

The procedures that you must follow when you transition to OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) depend on your process. You can:

  • Upgrade the client from a previous version to the version 11 software

Use this procedure if you want to upgrade the Commvault software on the client. You must deconfigure the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent before you upgrade the client. In this case, you can continue to use the deconfigured Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent on the upgraded client for recovery operations only.

  • Create a new version 11 client, and then upgrade an older client

Use this procedure to create a new client with the latest version of OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic), and then upgrade an older client to the latest version of the Commvault software. You must deconfigure the Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent on the older client first. In this case, you can continue to use the deconfigured Exchange Mailbox Archiver Agent on the older client for recovery operations only.
