Complete the necessary steps to set up Distributed Storage as a backup target in Commvault software.
Note
If you have already set up the storage servers and the proxies, proceed to step 8.
Procedure
-
Review prerequisites for deploying Distributed Storage as a backup target.
-
Identify and download the software needed to setup Distributed Storage.
-
Prepare the Distributed Storage servers for deployment, by installing the OS and configuring the network and other settings needed for the nodes.
-
Prepare the Distributed Storage proxies for deployment by installing the OS, and configuring the network and other settings needed for the proxies.
- Install the Commvault MediaAgent software in the Distributed Storage proxies.
-
Setup a deployment server by deploying and using a server appliance VM.
-
Deploy the software needed to setup the Distributed Storages and the proxies.
-
Register the Distributed Storage cluster in the CommCell environment.
-
Assign the required permissions in the CommCell environment..
Note
If your Commvault setup is a part of a multi-tenant CommCell environment, see Distributed Storage Management.
-
Add a virtual disk with the required settings.
-
Export the virtual disks so that they can be shared with the proxies.
-
Add access to the proxies in the virtual disks.
-
Mount the virtual disks on the MediaAgents /proxies so that they can be configured as a backup target.
-
Configure a disk library using the virtual disk so that it can be used as a backup target in the CommCell environment.
-
Optional: Depending on your environment and requirements, you can perform one or more of the following tasks to utilize Distributed Storage as a backup target.
-
Create Plans using the configured Distributed Storage as a backup target.
-
Associate the plan with subclients to be backed up, and create necessary backup schedules.
-
Create copies of the backup data using Storage Copies.
-
-
Optional: Perform a test backup and a test restore to ensure that the Distributed Storage is functioning properly.
Note
Make sure to change your root and login passwords to secure your environment.
