Connecting to LDAP Sources with Data Cube

Use the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) connector in Data Cube to collect, organize, and mine the directory data in your organization. After the data source is added, you can restructure the data. For example, you can combine data from two or more data sources into a single data source. For information about the available data restructuring options, see Restructuring Data in Data Cube.

Before You Begin

  • You must log in to the Web Console with a user who has permission to access Data Cube and create data sources.

For more information, see Permissions and Associations for Data Cube Users.

  • You must configure LDAP on the Active Directory (AD) server.

  • You must obtain the credentials to log on to the domain controller.

  • The domain controller must have connectivity with the Index Server client that you select for the LDAP data source.

  • If the Index Server cannot connect to the AD server, install the Data Analysis Toolkit package on a client that can connect to the AD server. Then set up a one-way direct network connection from the client to the Infrastructure client group. When you configure the LDAP data source, use the client as an access node.

For information about the Data Analysis Toolkit package, see Preinstallation Checklist for the Data Analysis Toolkit. For information about setting up a one-way direct network connection, see Setting Up a One-Way Direct Connection.

Procedure

  1. In a web browser, log on to the Web Console, and then click Analytics > LDAP.

  2. On the Data Sources (LDAP) page, click Add LDAP.

The New Data Source (LDAP) page appears.

  3. Under Data Source Name, complete the following steps:

    1. From the Index Server list, select an Index Server to store the data.

The domain controller must have connectivity with the Index Server client.

    2. In Data Source Name, enter a name for the data source the way that you want it to appear in the list of data sources.

      The name cannot contain spaces.

    3. In Data Source Description, enter a description to help identify the data source.

    4. Click Next to proceed to the next section.

  4. Under Connection Details, complete the following steps:

    1. In Domain Controller, enter the fully qualified domain name of the LDAP source.

    2. In User Name, enter the user name that you use to log on to the domain controller.

    3. In Password, enter the password for the user name that you entered.

    4. If the Index Server cannot connect to the AD server, from the Access Node list, select a client that can connect to the AD server.

      Note

Only clients that have the Data Analysis Toolkit package installed can be used as access nodes.

    5. If the AD server uses secure LDAP, move the Secured LDAP toggle key to the right.

    6. Click Next to proceed to the next section.

Data Cube tests the connection. If the connection fails, then you are prompted to change the connection details.

  5. Under Select Search Base, complete the following steps:

    1. From the list of LDAP objects, select the check box beside the Search Base that you want to include in your data source.

    2. To filter the objects, for each selected LDAP search base, enter an LDAP query in the Search Filter box.

If you do not enter a query, then the default LDAP query (&(objectCategory=*)(objectClass=*)) is used.

  6. When finished, click Submit.
