Setting Up Hedvig Storage Proxies

This section describes how to set up Hedvig Storage Proxies.

Procedure

  1. Depending on whether you have a physical or virtual storage proxy:

    • For a physical storage proxy, install the most recent CentOS Minimal or RHEL Minimal (attach the subscription to the RHEL server plus the HA repos).

Add a private network to the hypervisor host for the storage proxies (an ESXi example is described in Adding a Private Network to the ESXi Host).

    • For a virtual storage proxy with CentOS, deploy an appliance VM (using the ova file) for your hypervisor (an ESXi example is described in Setting Up Storage Proxies as Appliance VMs on ESXi Hosts).

  2. Attach any SSDs for edge caching to the storage proxies. NVMe flash or SSD is recommended, as described in Attaching SSDs to Storage Proxies for Edge Caching.

  3. If supported by the network, enable jumbo frames, as described in Setting Up Hedvig Storage Cluster Nodes.

Important

Hedvig Storage Proxies are configured with two Ethernet interfaces and run as an HA pair (except for storage proxies that are used for object storage). For failover to work correctly, a public VIP address and a private VIP address are required for the Ethernet interfaces.
