You can configure backups for Teams personal chats and channel chats. Microsoft requires an additional charge for every backup of personal chats and channel chats because the backup operation requires the use of paid Microsoft export APIs. For more information about the cost, in the Microsoft documentation, see Payment models and licensing requirements for Microsoft Team APIs.
When you enable this feature, chats are backed-up per unique user account, so you must add all users or add AD groups to the Teams backup content. All posts in personal messages, posts in channel (team) chats, posts in multiple-user conversations, and posts in meeting chats are included in the backup content. By default, these posts are not included in Teams backup content.
If you have multiple tenant Azure apps, at least one app must be enabled to use paid export APIs.
Configuring these options is a multiple step process including tasks in both the Microsoft Azure Portal and in the Commvault software.
In the Microsoft Azure Portal
- Create an Azure subscription in the Microsoft Azure Portal and enable metered APIs. For instructions, in the Microsoft documentation, see Enable metered APIs and services in Microsoft Graph.
In the Commvault Software
-
Enable paid export APIs:
-
If you have not yet added an Azure app: Add the Azure app in the Commvault software using the custom configuration option and enable paid export APIs.
-
If you have an existing Azure app: Enable paid export APIs.
If you have multiple tenant Azure apps, at least one must be enabled to use paid export APIs.
-
-
Enable chat backups:
-
Add the users to back up:
If you have already added all users or all AD groups as backup content, and you just enabled paid export APIs and chat backups, add all the users or all the AD groups again to make sure that all users created in the future will be automatically discovered and included in the backup content.
