To get started with Clumio Protect to back up Amazon DocumentDB and Amazon Neptune clusters, review the following requirements and information.
Considerations
-
DocumentDB and Neptune each have their own policy type, separate from the RDS policy. A DocumentDB policy protects DocumentDB clusters and a Neptune policy protects Neptune clusters. To protect both resource types, create one policy of each.
-
All DocumentDB and Neptune backups are full backups — incremental backups are not supported. Every scheduled or on-demand backup captures the entire cluster, which has implications for backup storage consumption and cost.
-
Point-in-time restore is supported for DocumentDB and Neptune by restoring from AWS-native snapshots. Clumio does not manage the lifecycle of AWS snapshots for DocumentDB or Neptune — they are taken and retained by AWS — but you can restore from them, including to a point in time. For more information, see Amazon DocumentDB and Amazon Neptune Restores.
-
Clumio offers the following types of DocumentDB and Neptune backups to help protect the data in your DocumentDB and Neptune resources:
- DocumentDB/Neptune SecureVault Standard tier backups for operational recovery
-
Clumio does not support SecureVault Archive tier backups for DocumentDB and Neptune.
-
Clumio does not support Backup destination regions for DocumentDB or Neptune that are not supported by Amazon.
-
Clumio makes use of DocumentDB and Neptune manual snapshots while backing up DocumentDB and Neptune databases. To ensure successful backups, verify that you have sufficient DocumentDB or Neptune manual snapshot limits (AWS service quotas) available in your AWS account.
Requirements
- You must have permission to create and update a CloudFormation/Terraform template. For more information, see IAM permissions required to deploy the Clumio service.
Procedure
Connect your AWS account
- Connect your AWS account and regions that contain your DocumentDB or Neptune clusters to start protecting them using Clumio. For more information, see Account connection.
Create DocumentDB and Neptune backup policies and protection rules
-
Create a policy for each resource type you want to protect. A policy defines when a backup of your DocumentDB or Neptune clusters should be generated, and how long the backup data should be retained.
For more information, see Amazon DocumentDB and Amazon Neptune policies.
-
Create a protection rule to apply each policy to your DocumentDB or Neptune resources based on tags and across accounts and regions.
For more information, see AWS Protection Rules.
