Database administrators can install Commvault and configure Oracle for backups and restores as a non-root user.
For Backup Administrators with root or administrative privileges, see Getting Started for the Oracle Agent.
Before You Begin
-
Acquire the following from the backup administrator:
-
The CommCell server login credentials. The CommCell user must have agent management capabilities.
Note
This user must be an Oracle user that has access to the Oracle executable and binary files.
-
The Storage Policy name for database backups.
-
The Storage Policy name for log backups.
-
-
Depending on your configuration, you might need to modify the SBT_LIBRARY and RMAN retention policy. Review the RMAN Parameters for your environment and make changes as needed.
-
By default, all backup data is retained infinitely. Change the retention of your data based on your needs. If you continue to have infinite retention configured, you will need to continue to add storage capacity. For information on the data retention policy, see Setting the Oracle RMAN Retention Policy.
