Performing a Non-Interactive Bare Metal Recovery Using 1-Touch for Windows

Start a non-interactive restore when you do not want to manually specify the client information during the restore operation. The information will be available in a response file. For more information on creating a response file, see Creating a Response File for Non-Interactive Restores Using 1-Touch.

Procedure

You can restore the client computer to another computer that has the same hardware and disk configuration:

  1. From the CommCell Console, expand Client Computers > client.

  2. Right-click the client, point to All Tasks, and click 1-Touch Recovery Point.

  3. In the Recover To wizard, make the following selections:

    1. On the Select Recovery Points page, verify that the Recover from the latest backup and configuration option is selected, and click Next.

    2. On the Review Recovery Options page, click on each tab and review the client configuration information.

      Important:

      • If you have a firewall configured between the client and the CommServe, in the Client Group Name box, select the name of the client computer group that you created with the firewall configuration and click Next. For more information on creating a client computer group with Firewall, see Firewall Configuration.

      • You can select a different MediaAgent computer than the one used to perform the system state backup. Select the Use different MediaAgent check box and select a MediaAgent from the MediaAgent list.

        Make sure that the Allow restore jobs to use alternative MediaAgent and Drive Poolto access required media parameter in the Control Panel is set to a value of 1. For more information on how to set the parameter, see Media Management Configuration: Resource Manager.

      • You can add the destination or the cloned computer to a domain based on your requirement. On the Review Recovery Options > Restore Options tab, click Advanced and enter the domain credentials.

    3. Click Finish.

  4. In the Save dialog box, enter the response file name, and click Save.

    TIP: The response file is created using the client configuration backed up by the default backup set in the latest backup job. By default, the response file is saved on the computer where you are run the CommCell Console.

  5. Copy the response file to a USB drive, removable disk, or a network location.

  6. Connect the USB drive or the removable disk to the computer that you use to perform 1-Touch recovery.

    If you want to use a network location to access the response file during the restore, follow the steps given in Accessing the Response File From an UNC Path during a Non-Interactive Restore.

  7. Use the ISO image to boot the client using any one of the following methods:

    • Burn a Live CD.

    • Copy the ISO to a USB drive and connect the USB drive to the client computer that you want to boot.

    • Copy the ISO to a Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) server to boot using the network.

  8. In the Language SelectionDialog dialog box, select a language from the list. To use the same language for the keyboard, click Use default keyboard for the selected language check box and click OK.

  9. In the 1-Touch Recovery wizard, click OK to start the full system restore.

  10. In the 1-Touch Recovery Wizard, click OK.

  11. Remove the Live CD or the USB disk and restart the computer.

    Note

    Depending on the operating system version you are restoring, you might have to restart the computer several times.

  12. Log on to the computer using the local administrator account.
