Creating a New Subclient for Archiving for Windows File System

Archiving subclients are logical containers of data to be archived. When you create an archive set, a default subclient is automatically created. The default subclient contains all the data that the agent is responsible to protect.

You can create additional user-defined subclients to manage specific data.

You can use wildcards to define the subclient content, see Wildcards for the Windows File System Agent.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System.

  2. Right-click the archive_set, point to All Tasks, and then click New Subclient.

The New Subclient dialog box appears.

  3. Specify the basic settings for the subclient:

    1. In the Subclient Name box, type a name.

    2. On the Content tab, click Browse to select the directory or files that you want to archive, and then click Add.

    3. To archive your files, on the Archiving Rules tab:

      1. On the General subtab, set the rules based on the file access time, modified time, or file size.

For more information about archiving rules, see Archiving Rules.

      2. Optional: On the Advanced subtab, configure delayed stubbing and set additional archiving rules.

To perform a data redundancy check, see Redundancy Check for Files. For more information about advanced archiving rules, see Stub Pruning.

    4. To specify the retention period for your archived files, on the Retention subtab, set the time period.

For more information about retention period, see Retention Options for Archiving.

    5. On the Storage Device tab, select a storage policy from the Storage Policy list.

    6. Click OK.

A subclient with the content that you want to archive is created under the archive set that you selected.
